Building Social Research Capacities in Higher Education Institutions in Lao PDR and Malaysia (BRECIL)

Overarching goal of this project seminar were to:

  1. Share important information and experience including project implementation, finance, quality, dissemination issues, and etc.
  2. Present WP1/PREP findings and results communicate and exchange information to facilitate implementation.
  3. Brainstorm and generate ideas/inputs for DEV1 and DEV3 planning
  4. Discuss and develop action plans for TOT

Desired Outcomes

  1. Common understanding about the project, the consortium responsibilities and goals of the Erasmus+ CBHE programme.
  2. Better and closer relationship building and bonding between partners.
  3. Exposure to partner institutional research environment and cultures
  4. Learning from each other- exchange of good practices, strengths and weaknesses.
  5. Enabling/scaffolding the project framework in WP2/DEV1: as valuable inputs for TOT development and training; WP3/DEV2: as preliminary insights about RG for enhancing research mechanisms; and WP4/DEV3: as requirements for ICT support to sustain research capacity building.
  6. Holistic understanding of the function of core WPs (WP7/PM, WP5/QM and WP6/DISS) across all development components (DEV1-DEV3).

Limitations

Some limitations were observed:

  1. Gothenburg University (GOTH) were unable to attend the seminar.
  2. NUOL and SU team members were unable to prepare PTT for the results of needs analysis due to lack of time- questionnaires were obtained from the participants two days before the seminar.

Lessons learned

  1. This seminar provided a good opportunity for representatives to realise and gain a deeper understanding on the role and responsibilities of BRECIL.
  2. The workshop has become a long-lasting platform, which can be used to communicate and share what they do to achieve the project goals and aims.
  3. Academic, technical knowledge, skills, project implementation techniques were learned through the seminar, and networking of partners facilitates sharing, exchanging, and discussion about the project implementation and development.
