Building Social Research Capacities in Higher Education Institutions in Lao PDR and Malaysia (BRECIL)

Executive Summary

The Quality Management Monitoring Contingency Meeting 2019 was held for two days with representatives from each partner and programme universities. The purpose of the meeting was to check the quality of the progresses, share inputs and forward planning related to QA group in BRECIL project. It was also to improve the communication between partner and programme universities.

Day 1

Professor Low convened the meeting by welcoming everyone and thanked all partners for their presence. She conveyed Prof Azirah’s apology to everyone, as the latter cannot be with us during this meeting. Dr Sinan started the meeting by recapping the Quality Management Monitoring Contingency Meeting 2018 its activities and outputs. He recapped on involvement in quality and how it relates to the project. After the coffee break, the first QM individual institutional report (UUM) was presented by Dr Hariharan. This was followed by presentations from each quality manager or representative from each partner and programme universities.

The session was moderated by Dr Sinan from SDI University and generated some discussion on these reports.  Professor Low reminded all that the finalized institutional QM report is to be submitted to QM office at the University of Malaya by 30th October 2019. At a closer date, a reminder will be sent out to all QM managers.

Dr Sinan presented on completed and ongoing KPI’s. Then, he had a discussion on challenges and risks faced by each partner and programme universities. Different institutional improvement was implemented in the project. Prof Low concluded the day reiterating that logistic matters in QM is important as the work package is linked with other work packages.  

Day 2

The second day of the meeting, Professor Low presented the findings of the online Annual Quality survey under WP/5 (Quality Management) in BRECIL project. The survey conducted by the QM lead among all coordinators and team members covered communication, cooperation and performance among all partners in the project. She hoped that the results from the survey can make further improvements in the project in the following year to come by having more frequent meetings among partners. In addition, Dr Sinan presented on External auditor’s report. Then, the meeting provided the participants with an opportunity to work in groups to discuss the operational work plans and activities. The participants discussed the operational work plans and activities that they were dealing with to generate some ideas. Moreover, the meeting ended with 17th Steering Committee Meeting (SteeCo) since the project members were there in the QM meeting.

As a closing, Professor Low on behalf of Professor Azirah, thanked all the partners for their input and active participation in these two days QM Monitoring Contingency Meeting, and wished everyone a safe journey back home.
