Summary of the webinar
The BRECIL Webinar on Research Governance in the Social Sciences focuses on one of the work packages in BRECIl, Developing and Enhancing research governance in Higher Education Institutions in Laos and Malaysia, a collaboration between the European, Malaysian and Lao partners over the past two and a half years. The webinar is held as part of the activities for Erasmus+ Days 2020 carried out over a period of three days. Erasmus+ Days consists of a series of bottom-up events organised by various Erasmus+ programme players. In the webinar, speakers talked about the research governance experience between ASEAN and EU universities which include mechanisms and services to provide research management support, monitoring and innovation, research ethics and management of grants. Findings from study tours on research governance in a European university and Malaysian universities and the seminars held in Malaysia and Laos were also discussed.
The webinar started with the Principal Coordinator, Prof Azirah Hashim', giving an Introduction to the BRECIL Project. This was followed by Prof Ronald Holzhacker's presentation on Research Governance in the Netherlands and Comparisons with ASEAN. Next, Prof Noor Hayaty Abu Kasim and Assoc. Prof Dr Hariharan Krishnasamy presented on Research Governance Practice at UM and UUM and Comparisons with Europe. After that, Dr Sinan Asci gave a presentation on Quality Assurance in Research Governance. The last presentation was by Dr Latsanyphone Soulignavong and Ms Bounthieng Vongsouangtham and they talked about the Implementation of Research Governance in Laos. The webinar had the important presence of UM Associate Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof Shaliza Binti Ibrahim, who shared the research governance experience in UM and SU President, Assoc. Prof Vixay Chansavang, who shared the experience of implementation of research governance at SU after attending BRECIL activities in both ASEAN and European countries. The research governance webinar was moderated by Prof Wah Yun Low, the Deputy Director at the Asia-Europe Institute, Universiti Malaya.
